- Bill Cosby has been sentenced to three to 10 years in a Pennsylvania state prison for sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004. The judge declared him a “sexually violent predator.” In Constand’s victim impact statement, she says:
“Bill Cosby took my beautiful, healthy young spirit and crushed it. He robbed me of my health and vitality, my open nature, and my trust in myself and others.”
- New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is the first female leader to bring her infant, Neve, to a meeting of the UN General Assembly.
- The Gender Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Australia has seen a 200 per cent increase in patients over the last decade. The service describes itself as offering assessment and treatment — including puberty blockers and hormones — to “trans and gender diverse” children from eight to 17 years of age.
- UK prosecutors have reportedly been advised to take “weak cases out of the system,” in order to boost their conviction rates in rape cases. In England and Wales, 18 to 24 year old males have the lowest rate of conviction for sex crimes.
