From the time she was a child, Blair Braverman was drawn North. Soon after she left high school, she headed to arctic Norway to learn to drive sled dogs, later working a summer job on a glacier in Alaska, taking tourists on dogsled rides. Her travels in Norway continue later, as she settles temporarily in a tiny village called Mortenhals, where she spends her days listening to stories from the village men in the local shop.
While living her dream, she faced not only the physical hardship of living and 
working on landscape not entirely conducive to human life, but the challenges and trauma of being female in a male dominated culture.
Blair’s book, Welcome to the Goddamn Ice Cube, comes out today in hardcover. I spoke with her over the phone from her home in northern Wisconsin.
